One Topic : Many Aspects

While most programs available for herbal science are what we call " Encyclopedic" in that they operate much like a person using a book. You look up a particular topic and it displays the information. Unfortunately, many topics involve not just one but many aspects. For our examples we'll stick to herbal science. Take a look at the topics and aspects listed below and try to imagine the amount of time and effort it would take to locate and compile the results using Books or "Encyclopedic" Programs;

Topic : Aspect

1. All Herbs that belong to the Rosaceae Plant Family.
2. All Herbs that demonstrate the medicinal property of being an Expectorant.
3. All Herbal Recipes used for treating Inflamed Eyes.
4. All Herbs that contain the chemical Methyl Salicylate.
5. All Herbal Recipes that use the Herb Meadowsweet.

As you can see the above tasks would be no small undertaking! A book is a good source to refer to however, it can be a time consuming laborious undertaking. As we say... It's one thing to have all the information at hand. It's another thing altogether to be able to efficiently put it to work! This is where The Herbs Project comes to the rescue!

    Modular Building Blocks

This application is "Modular" in that the module for Herbs data is a separate program from the module for Herbal Recipes, which is separate from the Medicinal Properties module, which is separate from the Quick Reference module. Each may be run individually and multiple instances are allowed. All modules share access to the three object databases employed (Herbs.odb, Recipes.odb, and MedProp.odb).

Being Modular The Herbs Project won't require the conventional replacement of the entire application in order to expand, enhance, add to or upgrade it. Other add-on modules available and currently in the works are:

The Products DDE Module for relational referencing products that contain herbs. Great for Medical, Herb Shop, and Home envoronments!

You may expect our selection of modules and database library to grow and expand in the future thus allowing users to customize and enhance their software to suite their specific needs without the need to replace the main application.

We are always receiving requests for other add on features so feel free to send your comments and suggestions to support@timilen.com. We always review and consider suggestions and comments from our most valuable resource... you!

    Notice!

  • This application has been designed for the home herbal enthusiast and yet provides comprehensive references even a professional would appreciate. It's purpose is to understand, identify, and apply herbal knowledge. It is not intended to replace the care and guidance of a personal physician. All users should consult their physician concerning their condition and the use of herbal remedies.

    Computers

The HDD where this application is installed will require 6 megabytes of free memory for the initial installation. Obviously if you plan on adding more data or additional modules the size needed will increase as well.
The Herbs Project will run on any PC or compatible that is running Windows 3.1 or better with Share.exe and enhanced mode enabled. Our rule of thumb is that if your computer will run Windows Multi-Media (Sound and Movies) then The Herbs Project will run just fine!

  • Many developers and software users think that any version 1.0 software probably is not bug free or has less to offer. Our philosophy is that good software stands the test of time and use and is hence the true measure of a quality application. Version numbers are not indicative of the quality of an application! Companies that release poorly written or buggy software usually have a reputation as such.

  • Version one's history of The Herbs Project has incorporated 8 modifications to the application without a single one being the fixing of any bugs! Our attention to detail and error filtering has paid off in an application that to date has proven itself bug free in all windows environments. As such, it has thankfully resulted in our efforts being focused on refinements and improvements, not on bugs.

  • You can look forward to up and coming add on modules for botany, gardening, and data-sharing.
