The Herbs ProjectScreenshots of The Herbs Project
As they say..."A picture is worth a thousand words." So here's a few screenshots of what you can expect in this modular application we call The Herbs Project...
The Opening Main Window in the Herbs Module...
Type in an herb name and press enter to retrieve the data on any herb in the database! ( spelling counts! )
Notice the "Chems" button is displaying a checkmark. Any button showing a checkmark on it is telling you this field has contents. No checkmark means it's an empty field. When you press the Chemicals Button a dialog like the next image below appears explaining what specific chemicals this herb has. If it has no contents you will notice the Checkmark is missing so now a double click of the button will open this dialog up to show you that it's empty. (A quicker route is to pull the Lists Window where the contents of this and other fields are available for edit.)

The opening main window in the Herbs and Recipes modules are what we call free-form database views. Some prefer viewing data in a table. No problemo! continue reading...

For those who have a dislike of free-form database views we've included a table view where you can peruse the rows and columns to double click a selection where it will pull it up in the main freeform window. Another method is to single click a selection and press the Retrieve Button.
Take note that the Table Window provides a menu of options, about, and help. The Help Files available are a very extensive collection of resources including tutorials on how to make the most of this powerful application. If that wasn't enough, they're printable! This same approach of offering both a freeform and table view perspective is employed in the Recipes module including all the same features!.
One common question asked of us is how do I share the information in The Herbs Project with others? The answer is export an ASCII text file of what you want to share...

Here's a snapshot of the export ASCII window where you can pick and choose herbs from the herbal database to export as a text file. The same feature is available in the Recipes module where you can export herbal recipes as well! We chose text format for compatibility with any platform, software or OS. The next snapshot shows the dialog window where you specify the files name and whether or not to include field labels...

Prior to actually saving or printing the new document you get a chance to edit it or add your own side notes as you wish. Things like "Hi Aunt Betty, Try these herbs for your cold!... Your daughter...Alice" or whatever you like.
Double click any herb shown in the "In Conjunction With" Field and it will retrieve that herb automatically. This field indicates what other herbs are commonly used with the current herb.
Select any Recipe in the Recipe List and press the "Fetch" button to launch the Recipes module retrieving the recipe of interest!
Click into almost any field and press the "Find" button. You'll get a search dialog that retrieves a pickable list of what you've searched for. The results are even printable or savable!
Don't overlook the help files that come with The Herbs Project! It's unfortunate that most users don't take the time to actually read and study the help files because if they did they would find an extremely comprehensive cross referenced resource of information, tutorials, tips, and insights on getting the most value and use from using The Herbs Project.

The Herbs Project as we have said is a very sophisticated and serious application for even the most demanding professional or hobby herbalist or gardener. It would take about 10 pages of snapshots to display all the windows and dialogs that come with it so next we'll post a small series of other screenshots (without descriptions or notes) to give you an example of just how powerful and extensive The Herbs Project application really is!
Enjoy!
